Nanakshahi calendar is based from the Birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in year 1469 ( western world ).

Amavasia is the new moon and puranmasia the full moon as with most other religions the the indian calendar was based on the movements of the solar system

Sangrand ( new month )

This is the time when the sun passes from one sign of the zodiac to the next, it is the start of the new month in the Indian calendar.

" To go from one place to another " ( change direction ) - it also means -

 " one meet another ".

Sangrand falls between 12th - 16th of each particular calendar month (western calendar )
